Tower crane rental

Tower crane rental gives contractors and developers the lifting reach they need for high-rise, mid-rise and infrastructure projects without buying the crane. We rent tower cranes worldwide from our terminal in the port of Rotterdam.

Tell us the building height, the load and the location, and we match you with a crane that fits the job.

Worldwide tower crane rental

We offer worldwide tower crane rental for construction projects of every scale, from mid-rise blocks to multi-year high-rise builds. Whether you need a hammerhead crane for a long horizontal jib, a luffing crane (also called a luffer) for a confined city plot, or a self-erecting crane that sets up in hours, we ship the right type from Rotterdam.

You can rent a tower crane for:

  • high-rise construction with hook heights of 60 metres and above;
  • mid-rise residential and commercial builds;
  • confined urban sites with limited slewing space;
  • long-duration infrastructure or industrial projects;
  • replacement during another crane’s repair or relocation.

We rent on a dry hire basis. The crane arrives ready and your team handles erection, operation and dismantling, so tower crane hire stays straightforward.

What is a tower crane?

A tower crane is a tall, fixed crane on a vertical mast, used to lift building materials high up on a construction site. The mast is modular, so the crane can be tied into the building and climbed as the structure rises.

At the top sits a slewing unit that rotates the jib through 360 degrees. The jib is either horizontal (hammerhead and flat top), able to luff up and down (luffing jib), or unfolded from a compact base (self-erecting). Well-known brands include Liebherr and Potain.

Tower crane types and lifting capacity

Lattice boom cranes come in two main configurations. The lattice boom crawler crane runs on tracks and is the workhorse for the heaviest, longest lifts. The all-terrain lattice boom crane sits on a wheeled chassis, which makes it road-legal and faster to move between sites.

Type Best for Setup
Lattice boom crawler crane Wind farms, refineries, power plants, multi-month lifts Tracks for soft ground, can travel with load
All-terrain lattice boom crane Projects with road moves between sites Rubber-tyred chassis, road-legal, outriggers on site

Both types can be configured with a luffing jib, derrick mast and superlift to extend reach and capacity for project cargo.

Rental terms that fit your project

We rent tower cranes on a dry hire basis, with terms that match the duration of your your project. Dry hire means the crane arrives ready and your team handles erection, operation and dismantling. That keeps the rental simple and the control on your site team.

You can rent short-term for a single phase, long-term for a multi-year build, or rent with an option to buy if you expect repeat use. Self-erecting tower crane rental is a popular short-term option because the setup is fast.

Rental term Best for
Short-term Replacement, peak phases, single phases
Long-term High-rise builds and multi-year sites
Rent-to-own Repeat use or scaling fleets

Because we also sell and buy cranes, you get straight advice on which path fits.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tower crane?

A tower crane is a fixed crane mounted on a vertical mast and used on construction sites to lift heavy building materials at height. It can rotate a full 360 degrees from the top of the mast and, depending on the type, has a horizontal, luffing or self-erecting jib.

How much does it cost to rent a self-erecting crane?

The cost depends on several factors, so we quote per project rather than list fixed rates. The main drivers are the crane model and lifting capacity, the rental period, the jib reach you need, and the shipping distance from our Rotterdam terminal. Tell us your project details and you get a clear quote.

How tall can a tower crane reach?

It depends on the type and how the crane is anchored. A free-standing tower crane usually reaches 60 to 80 metres at the hook, and a luffing or hammerhead crane tied into the rising structure can climb well above 200 metres. Self-erecting cranes are lower, typically up to around 40 metres.

Can you deliver a tower crane worldwide, and how long does mobilization take?

Yes. We ship tower cranes worldwide from our 14-hectare terminal in the port of Rotterdam, which has direct sea access. Mobilization time depends on the destination, the crane size and transport availability, so we confirm a realistic schedule once we know your location and start date.

Can I rent a tower crane short-term, or rent with an option to buy?

Both are possible. You can rent short-term for a single phase, long-term for a multi-year build, or rent with an option to buy if you expect repeat use. Because we rent, sell and buy cranes, we help you pick the option that fits your project and budget.
