Harbour Crane Rental
What is a harbour crane and how does it work?
A harbour crane lifts cargo at quaysides to load and unload vessels. Most are mobile and built around four core components:
- Boom or jib for lifting and reach
- Slewing platform with the operator cab
- Rubber-tyred undercarriage
- Hook, spreader or grab attachment
Types of mobile harbour cranes available for rent
Several harbour crane types serve different port setups. The mobile harbour crane on rubber tyres is most common and ideal for switching berths. Fixed or portal slewing variants suit tight terminals, and barge-mounted units handle floating operations. For non-quayside lifts, see our crawler crane range.
Harbour crane lifting capacity and specifications
Modern harbour cranes lift between 64 and 308 tonnes at maximum outreach. Two cranes in tandem reach around 600 tonnes for heavier project cargo. Typical specs:
- Lifting capacity: 64 to 308 tonnes
- Jib length: 35 to 64 metres
- Hoisting speed: up to 120 m/min
- Vessel classes: feeder up to Capesize and Megamax
Harbour crane applications: containers, bulk and project cargo
Harbour cranes are versatile. The same machine handles containers, bulk cargo with a grab, and heavy lifts. Applications include container handling, bulk for grain or ore, general cargo and project cargo like wind components. For continuous-duty bulk work, our heavy duty cycle crane delivers better cycle times.
