The 8×4 layout means the truck has four axles, two of which are driven. The weight is spread over all four axles, and the two driven axles give traction on unpaved ground.

A tipper truck is a truck with a body that tips to unload bulk material. The body rises at the front and the load slides out at the back. Kipper is the Dutch and German word for this vehicle. In British English it is called a tipper truck or tipper lorry.

A tipper truck is built for loose bulk material that you unload in one go. Typical loads are sand, soil, gravel, crushed stone, rubble and demolition waste. You see tipper trucks on civil engineering projects, for earthworks, road building and site preparation. In mining, they move aggregate and overburden. For loads you unload piece by piece, such as machines or steel parts, a low loader or flatbed trailer is a better choice.

These are three names for the same vehicle. The name depends on the country. In the Netherlands and Germany it is a kipper, in the UK a tipper truck, and in the US a dump truck. A site dumper is a different machine. It is a compact vehicle with a skip at the front, used mainly on site.
